We decided to take a rest day today to care for Andrea's knee and to get a look at this cool little city, Bar Le Duc.
Another night at the campsite is only 8 Euros so it isn't a terrible expense and we got a lot done. We work up this morning to a very dewy tent... ewww.... Last night we did a load of laundry in the "washing up sink" and hung it out to dry over night... but with a very dewy tent, you can imagine how not dry the laundry was this morning.. Yet... we found a dryer in the shower room with a setting specifically for synthetic clothes! Score! So after 2 loads of "synthetic cycle" it is dry, folded and back in little ziplock baggies... oh yeah... Andrea is the happy housewife of the Bar Le Duc campground!... Bruce hung out the laundry as well... (he made me say that...)
Breakfast from the local boulangerie, pain au chocolat, chocolate croissant, tarte au fromage (cheese), and a baguette for "later" and coffee a la Brucie! After that, Bruce went to the McDonalds to get Wifi and research why my knee was hurting so much... was it bike adjustment or what?
We have since lowered the bike seat and moved it forward a bit... hopefully that will help.
At our second time at McDonalds (we needed electricity and wifi), we met a lovely couple, Fran and Perry from Arizona, who live 6 months out of the year on a canal boat traveling up and down the canals of France. We had a wonderful chat since they are both retired teachers and love traveling as well. They offered us a ride on the boat if we meet up with them later in the trip, since we will be following the same canal they are traveling on! Thank you Fran and Perry. Hopefully we will meet again soon.
We walked around the old town which is high on the side of the hill with a very interesting castle and clock tower at the end. We tried to have lunch at a bistro in the old town at about 2:30, but after ordering beers and finding ESCARGOT PIZZA on the menu... we found out that they were no longer serving food (except for desserts) until dinner time... VERY disappointing. So we finished our beers and went to a boulangerie for a savory tart and croissant framboise (raspberry). We went to eat it in the shade near the castle but while finishing the croissant we were interrupted by a very nice yet slightly perturbed french construction worker... we figured out (while wipeing the powered sugar off our faces) that we weren't supposed to be in the shade by the castle and that they would be bringing in huge construction vehicles to do something at that very moment... He very nicely looked away while we scurried by the huge front loader lifting cement blocks right behind us... how we missed this I will never know...
A nice walk home, stop at the grocery store, shower, 2 hour nap in lying out in the sun (for Andrea)/in the shade (for Bruce), bike fixing, and now writing this blog.... off to make dinner: Ratatouille au tortellini!... Alas ... no Escargot pizza...
