Cycling from Paris to Istanbul!
We used a GPS Tracker called a SPOT Device. This tracked us in real time so you could see where we were when we were cycling. Now that we are home, we transferred this information to a GPS tracking website. The map now shows our exact route, including wrong turns! Zoom in for more detail!
The trip will be about 2200 miles and will take about 7 weeks.
We will cycle from Paris; east to Strasbourg; into the Black Forest of Germany; around Lake Constance to Lichtenstein; over the Bavarian Alps; through Austria from Salzburg to Vienna; follow the Danube to Budapest; into Croatia (briefly!) and Serbia; through the Iron Gates of the Danube to Romania; over the mountains of Bulgaria and, finally, into Turkey and Istanbul!
Our proposed route is below in red - with green alternate routes or side trips. Of course, things may change en route...
You will be able to keep up with our trip by returning to this site while we are away. We will have our handy GPS tracker on our bikes, so that all of you at home can see where we are and (maybe) what we are doing in real time.... We also plan on keeping a blog, similar to the one we kept on our trip to Mongolia.

These magnificent steeds are tailored to us, just the right height and just the right fit, with all the fixin's. Bruce's will be black, but Andrea's will be yellow like a Tonka Truck (like the picture)... Already planning on calling it "Tonka!"
We will be staying in hotels, B&Bs, guesthouses as well as camping out. Whatever works for a particular night depending on the weather, terrain and how tired and grungy we are! We will be completely self sufficient with all our own equipment and provisions carried on the bike in panniers.
